Continent of quality

'Continent of Quality' is a book by economist Paul Schenderling, published in October 2025. The book centers on how Europe can chart its own economic course that focuses on quality over quantity. Schenderling argues that Europe risks losing its unique balance between prosperity, social justice and environmental protection through a focus on cheap production and growth at the expense of sustainability and social values.

Schenderling argues that Europe can distinguish itself by choosing "real progress": high quality products, labor, life and environment. He introduces the concepts of "low road" and "high road" strategies for companies, with the "high road" focusing on innovation, investment in employees and adherence to environmental standards. To get here, Schenderling introduces a number of measures, such as setting ecological quotas and introducing border taxes to combat unfair competition. He emphasizes that Europe must integrate its values such as freedom, peace, justice and charity into its economic policies.

Interesting ideas to discuss during lessons on imports, true price and international competition.
