This was national college day 2024

Higher education is bursting with ambition to shape future-proof economics education. This was evident Wednesday, November 20, during the national hbo day of Economy Education Week. Even the public transport strikes did not prevent most lecturers, researchers, program managers and students from traveling to Saxion University of Applied Sciences for the NewBee Fest.

What does it take to turn that ambition into practice? Engage with each other, share experiences and ask questions. What do we teach our students and why? In what ways do we change a curriculum? How do we relate to business as usual? All relevant questions because, as Hans Stegeman stated in his keynote: "Why is accounting about money? Because that's what we decided."

If we once decided that way together, we can now decide differently together. That takes guts. Guts to search together for answers to all those questions. That sound came out clearly during the various theme tables, where discussions were held on themes such as the meaning economy, multiple value and circularity in economics education.

Framework for new economic education
THAT college economics education is changing is beyond question. The book 'Help with difficulty' by the Lecturer's Platform for Renewal of Economics Education (Matthias Olthaar) and the website hboeconomy.nu from Our New Economy brings together the dozens of initiatives, examples, tips and tools already out there. The website was launched during Newbee Fest by Joris and Magid of Our New Economy. Read more about the framework for new economic education "

Theme tables
At 15 different theme tables, participants gained inspiration on topics such as regenerative economics, students as Change Agents, Bildung and Human Flourishing. The theme tables, hosted by education professionals from different institutions, offer tools for enriching economics education and curriculum with new economic thinking for themselves. You can find the reflections, findings and summary of the transition tables via the links below. The file can still be completed if your reflection is missing.

Anything else you want to share? You can do so in this folder.
